BOOK EXCERPT: “NO, I WON’T SHUT
UP”
No I Won't Shut Up: 30 Years
of Telling It Like It Is: This book contains many of the columns that won the hearts of millions as Dr. Reynolds wrote
for USA TODAY for 13 years. It also includes special reports and investigations into the murder of Commerce Secretary
Ron Brown, the Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and an in-depth look at the murder of young men for breathing
while black. In addition this journalism classic gives an inside understanding of how and why the news media stereotypes blacks
as criminals and unworthy, while at the same time misses many of the corporate scandals that are apart of media's culture.
PARAGRAPH FROM “NO, I WON’T SHUT UP!”
Silence is neither
therapeutic nor empowering. Over the years, my writing and opinions
have resulted in my being ostracized, rebuked, and scorned. I have received death threats. To be silenced through
intimidation and fear is in itself servitude. If we are raped, we must cry out, if we are incest victims we must tell it.
The only time I have ever felt real shame was when I did shut up, when I did look the other way when people were hurting.
