Nintendo Switch 2 finally officially revealed

Nintendo has finally given us a first look at its next console, the Switch 2.

Like its predecessor, the Switch 2 is a hybrid portable and home console. Its detachable Joy-Con controllers now use magnets and are a bit larger, and improved hardware will allow for better performance (although we don’t have any exact tech specs yet).

As for games, all we saw so far is what appears to be a new Mario Kart. Nintendo said that it will hold a Direct presentation on April 2. The console will release at some point in 2025.

The original Switch released on March 3, 2017. It has become one of the most popular game consoles ever, moving over 146 million machines. The Switch helped to turn around Nintendo’s fortunes after the disappointing Wii U.

The Switch was home to some of Nintendo’s biggest games ever, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Switch 2 will have backward compatibility with games from the original Switch (with some unspecified exceptions).
