Adrian Newey has made his decision, per report

According to a report from Italian media, legendary Formula 1 designer and engineer Adrian Newey has decided on his future in the sport.

Per the report from Italian outlet Autosprint, that decision will see him join Aston Martin on a whopping four-year contract worth $100 million. It is alleged that Newey was swayed by Lawrence Stroll’s vision for the team’s future, a vision that includes a massive new, purpose-built Silverstone-based campus. Furthermore, the team is switching to a Honda-supplied power unit for the 2026 season, just as the new regulations arrive.

Autosprint also asserts that the deal will not be announced until next month, due to contractual language in Newey’s current contract with Red Bull. According to the report, “the agreement will be announced at the beginning of September because, until August, all contractual ties between the designer and Red Bull prevent any type of communication that is not linked to their employment relationship.”

Ever since it was announced ahead of the Miami Grand Prix that Newey would be leaving Red Bull following this season, the legendary designer has been linked with some different teams. Ferrari, Williams, and recently McLaren were all linked with his services, along with Aston Martin. If this report is true, it seems Newey has made up his mind to cast his lot with Stroll and company.

Aston Martin, however, did not confirm the news this morning. Reached for comment by Planet F1 the team had this to say: “The Aston Martin Aramco F1 team is a very appealing project with Lawrence Stroll’s vision, a state-of-the-art new Technology Campus and exciting partnerships with Aramco and Honda. Many high-profile individuals across all areas of the team are linked to the project but we don’t have anything to announce.”

We will see if that changes in a few weeks.
