In a new interview with ET Canada, Robert De Niro revealed that he has welcomed a seventh child.
While promoting his new project, About My Father, the 79-year-old actor spoke about raising children (and grandchildren—he has four), telling the outlet: “I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” he said. “And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt, but sometimes you can’t.”
When the interviewer followed up by asking about his six children, the actor clarified, “Seven, actually…I just had a baby.”
Shortly after, on May 11, the actor shared more details with Gayle King on CBS Mornings. De Niro and girlfriend Tiffany Chen welcomed a baby girl, Gia Virginia Chen De Niro, on Thursday, April 6. Per King’s reporting, “This baby was planned,” and both he and Chen are “psyched” about her arrival.
The actor has two children with first wife Diahnne Abbott, twins with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, and two with second wife Grace Hightower. His oldest is 51, while his second youngest is 11. Now baby makes seven!
