Furnishing coffee drinkers with better tools, San Francisco-based Fellow has cornered the industry by introducing a suite of carefully thought-out products. With its offering of kettles, grinders, French presses, mugs, the award-winning Aiden brewer, and a seasonal rotation of limited-edition coffees, the boutique brand looks to return the notion of considered ritual back into this oft-overlooked facet of daily life. Rounding out this gamut is the newly introduced Espresso Series 1 machine.
Not only less expensive than the professional grade devices that dominate the market but also cleverly re-engineered to maintain the same level of performance, the product takes on a distilled and minimalist appearance; versatile for a range of countertop settings. It comes in Black, Cherry Red, and Malted Chocolate.
Taking into account every step of the making process, the device was configured to make the full experience enjoyable; not just the drinking of a shot or two. “Espresso is the heart of coffee culture – it’s intimate, sophisticated, and the ultimate expression of craft,” said Jake Miller, Fellow founder and CEO. “But for too long, home enthusiasts have had to choose between inconsistent results or a multi-thousand-dollar investment. Series 1 breaks that tradeoff, offering café-level control in a machine built for everyday use.”
At the core of the design is Fellow’s patented Boosted Boiler architecture – a multi-point heating system more commonly found in industrial machines.
“Conventional home espresso machines are typically extremely limited in their ability to match the thermal stability and flow rate that commercial machines can produce,” says Nick Terzulli, Fellow VP of research and development. “With Series 1, one can unlock true consistency and cafe quality taste.”
According to Terzulli, temperature stability is the holy grail of espresso. “Standard machines tend to continually raise the temperature over the course of the shot which impacts the resulting flavor. The Boosted Boiler maintains an even keel in this respect and does so in under two minutes.”
Other key features of the newly imagined espresso machine include intelligent adaptive pressure profiling controls and simplified navigation through an especially responsive LED screen. Guided brewing makes for a more perfected result. Assisted steaming is achieved through a temperature sensitive wand.
“The Series 1 reflects everything we stand for at Fellow: that design should move you, that performance should empower you, and that coffee is a ritual,” Miller concludes. “We took the most technical brew method and made it feel intuitive. This isn’t just a new product. It’s a new standard.”
The Fellow Espresso Series 1 is available for pre-order now at the reduced rate of $1,199.95 (regular price is $1,499.95) with shipping expected later this year. For more information or to reserve yours now, visit fellowproducts.com.
