Hailey Bieber Won't Cut Her Hair Until Son Jack's First Birthday—Here's Why

Our beauty guru this week (and most weeks, tbh) is Hailey Bieber. This time, she’s sharing some advice for new moms: no drastic hair changes for a year postpartum.

After welcoming her first child Jack Blues Bieber last year, Bieber is weighing in on cutting your hair as a new mom. Her comments came in response to a video from influencer Melody Miles, who referenced Bieber’s short bob as haircut inspiration.

As she feeds her baby, Miles says to the camera, “Hailey Bieber makes me want to cut my hair, but I just know that if I cut it, it will not look like how she looks with short hair. I will look awful.”

The ever-supportive Bieber left a comment on her video, saying: “You would look stunning, but let’s hold hands and agree to not make any big hair decisions postpartum! Personally giving myself at least a year!” Back in 2023, Bieber cut her hair and it looks like she’s been trying to grow things out ever since.

We agree: Miles is sure to look great with a short haircut. But Bieber raises a good point. Hair can go through plenty of changes postpartum. For example, postpartum hair loss can be caused by post-pregnancy hormone level changes. It typically resolves itself after about six to 12 months, according to Cleveland Clinic.

Plus, the first year of having a child brings so much change that some moms are tempted to chop their hair off to make things easier. But users in the comments echoed Bieber’s advice. “Don’t make big decisions as a new mom! I had SERIOUS regret,” one writes.

Another is second-guessing the growing-out period: “My biggest regret,” she shares. “Now it’s at an awkward length.” One mom even references the “mom chop”: “I regret the mom chop BAD. I wish I had kept my hair long.”

But, this begs the question: Will we see any dramatic hair changes from Bieber come this summer or fall? She and husband Justin Bieber welcomed Jack in August 2024, so time will tell.

Last year, Bieber opened up about hiding her pregnancy the first few month. “I was honestly able to keep it quiet because I stayed small for a long time. I didn’t have a belly, really, until I was six months pregnant, which is when I announced it. I was able to wear big jackets and stuff,” she told ABC News. “I probably could have hid it until the end, but I didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to enjoy my pregnancy outwardly. I felt like I was hiding this big secret, and it didn’t feel good. I wanted the freedom to go out and live my life.”
