Hilary Duff Gives the Quintessential Millennial-Outfit Formula the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Touch

If I had to guess what Lizzie McGuire would be wearing in her 30s, I’d look no further than Hilary Duff herself.

On April 16, the former Disney star stepped out in Los Angeles wearing the quintessential millennial-outfit formula. You see, before Gen Z got us all (rightfully) hooked on wide-leg jeans and crop tops, the midiskirt and white tank top were everyday wardrobe heroes.

Throughout the 2010s, pairing a white tank top with a patterned skirt was a tried-and-true styling method for an effortlessly put-together look. Remember when everyone you knew had that same leopard-print satin skirt in 2018? We really thought we ate with that one because we did.

Now, as TikTok styling hacks only get more complicated and Gen Z continues to mine Y2K fashion for controversial relics, Duff has returned to an outfit formula that doesn’t require any math.

During a recent shopping outing, the 37-year-old actor tucked her white tank top into a colorful, patterned midiskirt. However, instead of opting for an expected ballet flat or pair of Sambas, Duff modernized the look with trendy chocolate-toned accoutrements, including patent leather knee-high boots, a slouchy shoulder bag, and a brown shearling-lined jacket. She kept everything else classic, down to her gold jewelry and French manicure.

Frankly, a white tank top and long skirt are two of the most versatile pieces a woman can have in her wardrobe. Just ask Duff, who has shown off various ways to style both items in just one week.

The weekend before her latest shopping trip, Duff paired a black satin skirt with a red V-neck and red flats. Fast forward to April 17, she repurposed the same red sweater with a white tank top and nude leather pants, topping off the look with a black belt.
