It’s been a “tough week” for Joe Jonas amid rampant speculation about his divorce from Sophie Turner.
On September 3, TMZ reported that the 34-year-old pop star had consulted divorce lawyers after six months of “serious problems” with the 27-year-old Game of Thrones star. Despite granting his fans a slice of hope that the reports were false by sharing an Instagram photo wearing his wedding ring, Jonas officially filed for divorce on September 5, asking the courts for joint custody of their two daughters, per filing obtained by Today.
Throughout the week, multiple tabloid reports seemingly designed to paint Turner as an absent mom—the actor has been filming in the UK for the past three months, leaving Jonas to watch his daughters “pretty much all of the time” (the horror!)—led to waves of online support for Turner, with many fans even speculating that Jonas’ team was behind the negative reports.
Fans were particularly disturbed by published photos of Jonas having breakfast with his children, considering how hard Turner has fought to keep paparazzi from taking pictures of her kids.
So yeah, it sure sounds like it’s been a tough week for Jonas, which is exactly what he told fans at his Jonas Brothers concert in Los Angeles on September 9. “It’s been a tough week. I just wanna say, look, if you don’t hear it from these lips, don’t believe it,” he told the crowd right before singing “Hesitate,” a song written for Turner. “Okay? Thank you everyone for your love and support. Me and my family love you guys.”
