Katie Holmes has a way of making anything in she wears feel like a must-have. Madewell totes, chunky sneakers, dresses over jeans—they’re all instantly cooler the moment Holmes steps out in them. And that’s exactly what just happened with one of spring’s biggest jacket trends at Paris Fashion Week.
On March 10, the actor and fashion icon attended Zimmermann’s fashion show in Paris and showed up in a look by the brand featuring a subtly cropped trench coat and matching butter yellow trousers. Although there was plenty to covet about the look—the messy French-girl hair, the slouchy bag, those wide-leg cargo pants—I still can’t get over the lightweight jacket that takes on one of the season’s best trends with Holmes’s signature je ne sais quoi.

I had to know more. I had to find a look-alike. And reader, we’re all in luck: Amazon is chock-full of similar spring jackets, including one that’s currently 20% off. While that signature yellow shade and ever-so-cropped length are hard to replicate, I might actually like these options better; they feel a little more realistic for daily wear, and the crops are a touch more editorial.
Cropped trench coats are popping up pretty much everywhere right now. After brands like Loewe showed the silhouette last spring, it’s fully caught on; Prada, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, and Toteme all offer their own takes, as do more accessible brands like H&M. But Amazon is one of my favorite places to pick up trendy pieces that don’t cost a fortune, and its options are pretty much identical to ones that cost hundreds of dollars more. (The reviews are pretty good too.)
As far as styling, you can take a page from Holmes’s book and try matching trousers; Everlane’s got you covered there. But I think I’ll go with my favorite pair of slim-straight jeans, which are right on trend for the season ahead, styled with a plain white T-shirt, slim leather loafers, and wide, rectangular sunglasses. It’s a look that’d work in New York and Paris alike—not to mention just about anywhere else—that requires zero extra effort on my part. And if Katie Holmes teaches us anything, after all, it’s that less is more. Works for me!
