Millie Bobby Brown has posted a scathing video to Instagram, calling out by name several journalists who have written derogatory articles about her appearance. “This isn’t journalism. This is bullying,” the actor said. “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices is disturbing. And the fact that some of these articles are written by women makes it even worse.”
In case you missed it, Brown has recently been emulating notable celebrity fashion moments. At the end of February, for the premiere of The Electric State, Brown recreated Gwyneth Paltrow’s iconic 1998 red carpet look in a sheer gown. She also paid tribute to Pamela Anderson’s legendary 2005 party girl look in a series of photos on Instagram, styled with a blonde blowout.
Unfortunately, many of the reactions to the actor’s appearance have been negative. In fact, there has been a slew of sexist and misogynistic comments directed at the 21-year-old, many of which accuse her of “aging badly.”
Now the Stranger Things star has hit back in a no-holds-barred Instagram video in which she calls out—by name—all of the writers, journalists, and public figures who have been “bullying” her over her appearance.
In the video, which was posted to Brown’s Instagram on Monday, March 3, she talks about how young she was when she started in the industry, and how even though she grew up in front of the world, “people can’t seem to grow with me.”
“Let’s talk about the articles, the headlines, the people who are so desperate to tear young women down,” continues Brown. In a fairly unprecedented move, she goes on to name journalists who have written particularly negative articles about her. “‘Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown aging so badly?’ by Lydia Hawken,” she begins. “‘What has Millie Bobby Brown done to her face?’ by John Ely. ‘Millie Bobby Brown mistaken for someone’s mom as she guides younger sister Ava through LA’ by Cassie Carpenter.”
