Red Bull brings a new floor for Max Verstappen’s RB21 to the Miami Grand Prix

MIAMI, Florida — As Red Bull looks to chase down McLaren at the front of the field, the team has brought a new floor configuration to the Miami Grand Prix for Max Verstappen’s RB21.

As outlined in the team’s “Car Presentation Submission,” Red Bull has installed new floor fencing, and a new floor edge, for Verstappen’s RB21. According to multiple reports teammate Yuki Tsunoda will be running the older configuration this week and is expected to receive the new components at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix later this month, along with an even bigger upgrade package for the RB21.

These upgrades are described by the team to be performance upgrades and not circuit-specific upgrades. According to Red Bull, the upgraded floor fencing will “extract a small increase in load for the same flow stability,” while the new floor edges have “more camber,” which will increase the aerodynamic load on that part of the RB21.

Here are some images of the new components from pit lane here in Miami:

Red Bull is one of six teams with new components here in Miami, along with Aston Martin, Mercedes, Alpine, Williams, and Sauber.

Of course, the upgrades to the RB21 are not the biggest news regarding Verstappen this week. The driver and his partner Kelly Piquet announced the birth of their daughter, Lily, on Friday.

Verstappen left Europe following the birth and arrived in Miami on Friday, hours ahead of the only practice session at the F1 Miami Grand Prix.

Now we’ll see if the upgrades can give Verstappen even more of a chance to fight at the front against McLaren and company.
