Summer Beauty Trend: Golden Hour Glam Is the Vacation-Ready Makeup Look for 2024

As we patiently await warmer temperatures and summer Fridays, it seems like beauty brands are joining in on the countdown with the latest summer beauty trend: golden hour glam. In recent weeks, brands like Patrick Ta Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs, and Fenty Beauty are leaning into vacation vibes with sunset-inspired products you’ll want to slip into your carry-on.

What is golden hour glam? Exactly as the name implies, it evokes the beautiful golden lighting that hits during sunset. Makeup artist Patrick Ta, who coined the term ‘golden hour blush,’ has been creating the look on famous clients like Karol G, Alix Earle, and Ayra Starr.

“Golden hour blush is typically best in a peachy, golden hue to give skin that ‘I just got back from vacation’ effect,” Ta says. “It’s a go-to for those looking to achieve a more sun-kissed look thanks to its warm, natural peach tone that brings a natural warmth to the cheeks.”

Ta created the shade She’s the Moment to be “golden hour in a blush.” “Its peachy-coral coloring washes the skin with such a glowing effect that makes it look like you’re always in good lighting,” he says.

Makeup artist Pat McGrath, who recently added new sunset-inspired shades to her Divine Cream Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm collection, agrees, adding that golden hour glam looks stunning on everyone.

“It captures that radiant flush of warmth the light gives you during that magical time when the whole world is bathed in liquid gold,” says McGrath. “That enchanting glow of daybreak or twilight looks magical on every skin tone. The key is to use soft-focus pigments that diffuse seamlessly onto skin, creating an aura of incandescence that flatters every complexion.”

McGrath loves the Legendary Glow Colour Balm for golden hour glam, which features skin-loving ingredients like squalane and passion fruit extract to give you an effortless finish. “It melts into skin for a seamless, dewy, just-been-kissed-by-the-sun glow,” she says. To get a sunset-inspired look, she recommends the shade Electric Bloom Glow, a vivid orange that works for all skin tones.
