Typically, the first Monday in May marks the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala (or, just plainly, the Met Gala). Since it first launched in 1948, the event has been a seemingly never ending red-carpet parade of celebs—from fashion designers and Hollywood starlets to pop music icons and sports champs—who all come out to raise funds for the Costume Institute.
This year, the event will take place on Monday, May 6 in New York City and is themed “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” That is, the exhibition will center around approximately 50 historically significant pieces from the collection that are too fragile to be worn again. The co-chairs for the 2024 Met Gala include Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
